How Bungee Cord is made

{
}

It is believed that the term Bungee comes from the colloquial form in which the British called Indian rubber. The concept of elastic material and load-bearing cables is applied to modern elastic cable. Bungee Cords have ended up being used in both shoes and bridges for bungee jumping. So the Bungee Cords Manufacturer have developed many products related to this material.

The sport of bungee jumping has become massified thanks to the great interest it arouses. People are betting more and more on strong emotions. And sports like bungee jumping generate one of the greatest feelings of danger and adrenaline that can be experienced with a sport.

The growing demand for these products to the Bungee Cords Manufacturer has led us to dedicate an article from our Blog to explain the manufacturing process, design and raw materials used in Bungee Cords for bungee jumping.

Raw Material

Rubber, the main material used by bungee cord manufacturers, is a material with excellent extensibility, unbeatable recoverability and unique tensile strength. For these characteristics, among many others, the bungee cord manufacturers decided to use this material to generate the ropes used in disciplines such as bungee jumping.

In fact, there is no more suitable material than rubber for this type of products. The difference lies in the nature or synthesization of the rubber you want to use. We see how synthetic rubber is used mostly for aspects that require greater resistance to air or ultraviolet radiation. As for example in wetsuits for diving, surfing, etc..

The natural rubber on the other hand has a greater resistance, aspect that generates much more security to be used in the bungee jumping.

This is usually covered with braids with cotton or nylon threads.

Design

Commercial cables of this type usually have a diameter of 0.70 centimetres. Size of diameter not necessary to provide total safety in a bungee jump.

Thus, a cable to be used in a bungee jumping must have at least a diameter of 1.62 centimeters. These cables, besides having different measurements to commercial or military cables, usually have some aspects of specific visual designs. Bungee  companies decorate and design their Bungee Cord as they wish.

That's why any professional bungee jockey will always recommend LIASA, a bungee cord manufacturer that not only generates high strength and safety bungee cords, but also generates original and unique designs.

The manufacturing process

This is the classic process used by bungee cord manufacturers to manufacture a rope that is resistant and optimal for bungee jumping.

First Step: Extrude bungee cords

The natural rubber is prepared to be stretched on long and large tapes. These must have:

  • A thickness of about 30 centimeters
  • A width of 65 centimeters
  • A 30-meter start

The extruder is based on a hot cylinder where the rubber is placed. Each end of the cylinder is moved by pressing to force an exit of the rubber from the opposite side. Once the bungee cords have cooled, just roll them up and send them to the bungee cord manufacturer.

Preparation of bungee cords

According to the number of strips we use, we will calculate the diameter and resistance of the cord in question. In this part of the process it is important to coat the individual threads with talc and soapstone.

Braid

For braiding we need to join the free ends of the rubber threads as they are fed through the braiding machine. These ends pass through a roller that packs them. While in the opposite end the thread is picked up by a roller of high pressures and speeds. These threads are placed and under pressure and stretched.

This braid weaves the yarn in a defined, tight pattern so that no dirt enters the cord spaces. It is covered with as many layers as necessary to be able to apply the outer covering thread. This is usually decorated and painted by bungee cord manufacturers.
